a choice

Today while Shannon was at work I walked around to try and become more acquainted with this thriving metropolis. After I downed my first delicious Pinkberry and had few very lovely phone calls from friends and family back home, I made my way uptown to borders on Park and 58th street. I ended up walking the wrong direction after coming out of the subway (which happens often) and bumped into Bloomingdales. Immediately I became ten folds happier. Not because of the store (barf please louis vuitton bags) but because the quote from my favorite character Kathleen Kelly in You've Got Mail kept running through my mind.

"Once I read a story about a butterfly in the subway, and today, I saw one! It got on at 42nd and off at 59th, where, I assume, it was going to Bloomingdales to buy a hat that will turn out to be a mistake, as almost all hats are."

This is going to sound completely cheesy but bare with me.
I made the choice a long time ago to be happy. Happy even when life has thrown a trial my way. Happy even through unwanted but needed change. I don't think i could make it through life being upset or angry all the time. I feel like my life would be colorless if i couldn't see the simple joys in it that make me so happy. I am so grateful for that ability.
You've got mail was my happy today and so i thank you Meg Ryan.
Okay phewww you made it. I hope i didn't scare you away from reading any further posts. I will try to keep the cheesy-ness from now on to a minimum.

  6. Looking for the simple joys and being grateful for the ability to do so is part of the reason why I like the poetry of Mary Oliver so much. In a poem I read yesterday she talks about how it seems impossible to write about "a world that has nothing fancy." She has so attuned herself to “seeing” that she recognizes that the morning sun the glitters on everything. In this poem she notes trying to close her eyes to see if by doing so she could observe something that wasn’t fancy. She writes:

So I tried with my eyes shut,
but of course the birds were singing.

And the aspen trees were shaking
the sweetest music of their leaves.

And that was followed by, guess what,
    a momentous and beautiful silence

Your gift of seeing the world differently is born of choice. A choice we all have. Thanks for showing us how it can be done blissfully.

  7. Miss San, that cheese right there is why we're friends.

Oh... and because you're beautiful, hilarious, adorable, feisty, driven, spiritual, friendly, outgoing, goofy, sentimental, capricious, and loving like most people wouldn't believe.

I like your cheese, and I want you to keep it coming.
(Remember how much I love different cheeses anyway?)

Keep being happy Madi- you make me happy too! :) :) :)
